Theo đó, bộ phim The King’ Speech, mặc dù không nhận được nhiều thành tích đáng kể tại lễ trao giải Quả cầu vàng lần thứ 68 vừa qua, nhưng đã “chiếm lĩnh” hầu hết các hạng mục quan trọng của giải thưởng Oscar năm nay như: Phim xuất sắc nhất, Nam diễn viên chính xuất sắc nhất, Nam - Nữ diễn viên phụ xuất sắc nhất, Đạo diễn xuất sắc nhất…

Vị trí thứ nhì trong cuộc đua đến với giải thưởng Oscar năm nay bất ngờ thuộc về bộ phim True Gift của anh em nhà Coen, với 10 đề cử.
Trong khi đó, đối thủ “đáng gờm” của The King’ Speech và cũng là bộ phim chiến thắng tại lễ trao giải Quả cầu vàng lần thứ 68 - The Social Network chỉ khiêm tốn với 8 đề cử, cùng số lượng đề cử với bộ phim Inception của đạo diễn Christopher Nolan.

Danh hiệu Nữ diễn viên chính xuất sắc nhất là cuộc đua tranh giữa hai chủ nhân của Quả cầu vàng lần thứ 68 là Annette Bening và Natalie Portman, bên cạnh những gương mặt hứa hẹn sẽ gây bất ngờ như Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence và Michelle Williams.
Một trong những bất ngờ của danh sách đề cử lần này thuộc về đạo diễn Christopher Nolan với bộ phim Inception. Dù nhận được 8 đề cử Oscar lần thứ 83, nhưng Inception đã không thể đem về đề cử Đạo diễn xuất sắc nhất cho Christopher Nolan. Năm 2009, vị đạo diễn này cũng đã để lỡ mất hạng mục giải thưởng này với bộ phim The Dark Knight.
Những chủ nhân mới của tượng vàng Oscar sẽ được vinh danh tại lễ trao giải Oscar lần thứ 83, được tổ chức tại nhà hát Kodak (Los Angeles, Mỹ), vào ngày 27.2 tới.
